Chewy - Ruby Macaw - Ara Macao X Ara Chloroptera
Chewy is a hybrid macaw that you wouldn't see in the wild. He is a mix between a Scarlet and a Green Wing macaw. We're pretty sure his father was the scarlet due to the tangerine patches on his cheeks. Chewy is very sweet, but displays personality traits of both the scarlet and green wing. He can be very in your face and demanding but he can also be cuddly. This guy can be very jealous and if one of us holds another bird for too long he gets very angry and will bite if given the chance. One bite was bad enough to leave a bruise from the forearm down to the fingers. The bites are rare and his body language tells it all. Not paying attention to his body language is how you get bit. It took a few weeks to rebuild the trust and now when handing other birds, Chewy has to be the first one to get attention. If he gets picked up first, then he doesn't get angry about other birds getting attention.
